When they told me this thing has legs, I said "No! It's staying in the water!" I don't want to be receiving reports of it running rampant in the sewers, showing up in elevators- Nothosaurus? Not a chance. |
Nothosaurus is a genus of nothosaurid marine reptile in Jurassic World Evolution 2. Originating from Middle to Late Triassic Europe, Africa, and Asia, it's an ancestor of the plesiosaur family of marine reptiles. Nothosaurus is part of the Prehistoric Marine Species Pack DLC.
History[]
At least one Nothosaurus was cloned by Mantah Corp, a bioengineering company that rivals InGen, and lived on a secluded island in a sewer system.[1] Following a few encounters with the Nublar Six, it was released into the wild where it attacked and killed a Dilophosaurus and escaped into a river.
Characteristics[]
Easily recognized thanks to its unusual, eel-like appearance, Nothosaurus is a nimble, distinctive predatory marine animal that first roamed the seas of the Middle to Late Triassic period, around 240ā210 million years ago. Measuring up to 7 meters in length, this aquatic reptile propels itself forward with paddle-like fins and webbed toes that allow it to swim at high speeds, while its impressive set of sharp needle teeth and strong jaws make it an efficient hunter. Nothosaurus is one of two marine reptiles that can go onto the rock-land formations housed in lagoons, the other being Archelon. Therefore, it can go onto land.
Gameplay[]
Behavior[]
Being one of two semi-aquatic species able to go on land, Nothosaurus can escape larger marine reptiles such as Kronosaurus and Mosasaurus. The social animation of the Nothosaurus changes depending whether the two interacting are in water or on a platform, similarly to the other amphibious lagoon creature, Archelon.
Paleontology[]
Growing between 4 and 7 m (13 and 23 ft) long and weighing between 82 and 150 kg (180 and 330 lb), Nothosaurus was first discovered in Germany's Muschelkalk rock formation in 1833 by paleontologist Georg zu Munster. The first specimen was initially believed to have lived on land rather than in the sea ā in fact, the genus takes its name from the Ancient Greek for "False Lizard". Many further species of Nothosaurus have been named since its initial discovery, with research suggesting it may have been an ancestor of the plesiosaur and pliosaur family of marine reptiles.
Paleoecology[]
Nothosaurus dates back to the Mid-Late Triassic period and migrated across vast distances ā fossils have been unearthed from Africa to China, although they are most commonly found in Europe. It lived on a diet of other marine reptiles and fish, and was probably the apex predator of its habitat. Among its contemporaries where the long-necked archosauromorph Tanystropheus and the large primitive ichthyosaur Cymbospondylus.
