Ancient mythology may not be my specialty, but I've been told that Moros intrepidus was named after the Greek deity Moros, the personification of impending doom. It was said that he gave people the ability to foresee their demise. And if you come face-to-face with this tyrannosaur, I suspect there is a good chance you will meet your fate. |
Moros intrepidus is a genus of tyrannosauroid dinosaur in Jurassic World Evolution 2. One of the earliest known tyrannosaurids and originating from Late Cretaceous North America, it is included in the Dominion Malta Expansion.
History[]
During the Late Cretaceous period 65 million years ago, a Moros intrepidus was scavenging morsels from the teeth of a slumbering Giganotosaurus before running off when the latter woke up.[1]
Moros intrepidus were present in the sanctuary that was created by BioSyn, both in the compound and in the valley, picking morsels of food from the teeth of the Giganotosaurus. Another was seen playing with a little girl in Washington D.C. as Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler prepared to testify on BioSyn's corruption in court.[1]
Characteristics[]
One of the smallest tyrannosaurs (let alone, dinosaurs) to have ever existed, Moros intrepidus is a diminutive carnivorous theropod from the Late Cretaceous period. Only a fraction of the size of its more famous ā and far more fearsome ā relative, Tyrannosaurus, a full-size Moros intrepidus measures a little under a meter in length, making it one of the smallest dinosaurs to have existed. Despite its short stature, Moros is known to be a quick and nimble hunter. Moros intrepidus is similar in size to Compsognathus, but a bit bulkier.
Gameplay[]
Behavior[]
Moros intrepidus can be kept singly or in groups, and can co-habitate with giant carnivores like Tyrannosaurus or Giganotosaurus, but is best kept away from animals like Velociraptor, Deinonychus and Herrerasaurus, as they will eat Moros without hesitation. It is also able to live harmoniously with any herbivore. Preferring a habitat with lots of sand and open space, Moros intrepidus requires minimum amounts of water and a meat feeder. It can and will happily take goats as prey in addition, with these tiny tyrannosaurs latching on and grappling to attack and kill the goat. Due to its small size, its security rating is 1, and it will only escape if a fence is broken by a storm, sabotage, or larger dinosaur. It can swarm on humans if it decides to attack them, overwhelming them with sheer numbers.
Paleontology[]
Among the earliest and smallest of the tyrannosaurs measuring nearly 1.22 m (4 ft) long and weighing just over 77.2 kg (170 lb) ā slightly larger than the Jurassic World canon species ā Moros intrepidus is one of the most recent new dinosaur discoveries, with the first remains ā a series of limb bones found in Emery County, Utah in 2013. The genus was formally described in 2019 and takes its name ā a combination of the words "doom" and "intrepid" ā from its imposing appearance and propensity for traveling long distances.
Paleoecology[]
Moros intrepidus lived in North America around 96 million years ago, roaming around the forests and swamps of Utah and the surrounding areas. It survived on a carnivorous diet of small dinosaurs, mammals and lizards, although experts believe it may also have been a scavenger. Among the contemporaries of Moros intrepidus were dinosaurs such as Dromaeosaurus, carnosaur Siats, therizinosaur Nothronychus, ceratopsian Zuniceratops, hadrosaur Jeyawati, fellow primitive tyrannosaurid Suskityrannus, and dubious theropod dinosaurs Richardoestesia along with an undescribed ankylosaur species, turtle species, a crocodyliform, and gar species.

Trivia[]
- Moros intrepidus is the second prehistoric animal in Jurassic World Evolution 2 to have both its genus and species name displayed, with the first being Tyrannosaurus rex. All other prehistoric animals in the game only display their genus name.
