Minchinhampton is a small town in Gloucestershire, England near which the only remains, so far discovered, of Proceratosaurus were found. The discovery of a partial skull was made in the opening years of the 20th century during the digging of a new reservoir near the town. The site forms part of the wider Great Oolite Group that underlies large parts of southern England.
Proceratosaurus would have roamed on the northern continent of Laurasia during the middle Jurassic, around 168 million years ago. It has recently been classified as one of the oldest known Tyrannosaurids.
