The Hythe Formation is a sub-unit of the Lower Greensand Group, a geological group which spans from the Wealden area in Sussex to the London-Brabant Massif in East Anglia. This formation dates from the Lower Cretaceous, and is primarily composed of sandstone, sand, mudstones, and limestones.
