The Cerro Fortaleza Formation is found in Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, in southernmost Patagonia. The formation dates back to the Late Cretaceous, and is primarily composed of sandstone, which would have been formed by fluvial processes - matter carried and deposited by rivers and streams. Numerous titanosaur specimens have been recovered from this formation, including the Puertasaurus, and recently, the Dreadnoughtus.
