Although I find myself tasked with assessing the danger that these prehistoric animals pose, I can't help but be in awe of these stunning creatures. The Barbaridactylus, for instance, casts a striking shadow thanks to its boomerang shaped wingspan. Let's just keep them safely contained, okay? I'm not sure I'd trust them to come back of their own accord. |
Barbaridactylus is a genus of nyctosaurid pterosaur in Jurassic World Evolution 2. Originating from Late Cretaceous Africa, it's part of the Late Cretaceous Pack DLC.
Characteristics[]
With its incredibly distinctive head crest, Barbaridactylus is a medium-sized pterosaur that lived towards the end of the Late Cretaceous period, around 72–66 million years ago. This genus is distinct from most other pterosaurs in that it is part of the nyctosaurid family, which rarely walked on land and was specially adapted for almost constant flight. This flying hunter takes its name from the Barbary Coast of North Africa, near to where Barbaridactylus was discovered.

Paleontology[]
A rather large nyctosaurid, in fact one of the largest with a 4 m (13 ft) wingspan, Barbaridactylus was first described by a paleontological dig group in 2018 after they discovered a collection of fossils while studying the Khouribga Plateau in Morocco. Their investigation unearthed not one but three new dinosaur genera; fellow nyctosaurids Alcione and Simurghia were also discovered during this period. In total, five Barbaridactylus specimens were excavated, and the Khouribga Plateau remains the only location where this genus has been found.
Paleoecology[]
Morocco was home to various flora and fauna during the Late Cretaceous period, with evidence on record of abelisaurs, sauropods and many marine reptiles and fish co-existing. Barbaridactylus was a piscivore, darting into the water to snare fish with its long beak.
